If your air conditioner isn't working, don't panic! There are a few simple steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue before calling a technician. First, check your electrical panel to see if a switch has been triggered. Make sure the thermostat is turned on and that the air filter isn't clogged. Additionally, check that the condensate pump is working properly.
If the indoor fan of the air conditioner is not running, first make sure that the circuit breaker has not been tripped. If everything is OK, inspect the air filter. If it's blocked, you may be able to fix it yourself. If there is ice in the evaporator coil and in the refrigerant lines, allow the ice to melt and check again if the fan is operating.
If it still doesn't work, the coil may have frozen. A frozen coil requires a service call, as the technician may need to replace the contacts of the fan relay, the fan belt, or even the motor itself.
